hi, i've got a '70 ambassador (4-door, 360 V8) and something's fishy with my ballast coil and resistor, but we can't figure out which it is.
the problem usually only occurs on hot days when i've been running errands or driving from place to place. the engine turns over just fine the first couple
times when i hop in, but then on the fourth or fifth try something's not catching and i wind up stuck in the parking lot at target trying to coax the
ignition into turning over. i've had my alternator, starter, and cilenoid all checked and they're just fine. everyone i've talked to - from my
mechanic to my dad to the guy at the auto parts store - says the problem has to do with needing either a new ballust resistor or a ballust coil. today i went
to buy the resistor and the only one at the auto parts store that would work with my engine doesn't fit under the cover we think the current resistor is
housed in. anybody faced similar problems? where can i find a resistor that will fit under that little black cover? am i barking up completely the wrong tree?
i'm not a mechanic - just a girl who bought a hot old car because it's my dream car, even though i know next to nothing about fixing it. please help!
